SEA Junction, together with the IPSR In-House Seminar and the Mahidol Migration Centre (MMC), has launched a new bi-monthly event series titled “Wednesday SEA Mobilities.” Starting in February 2022, the series is held on the last Wednesday of every two months and features seminars and panel discussions on mobility issues in Southeast Asia, with contributions from academics, practitioners, NGO workers, and migrants.

The first event in the series took place on 23 February 2022 and featured Sirada Khemanitthathai, who presented findings from her recently published Thai-language report, “Situation on Migrant Workers and Border Crossing During the Covid-19 Pandemic.” The session was broadcast online via Zoom and livestreamed on the Facebook pages of IPSR and SEA Junction.

Sirada Khemanitthathai authored the report in collaboration with the Migrant Working Group and with support from Humanity United. She is affiliated with the Faculty of Political Science and Public Administration at Chiang Mai University and holds a PhD from SOAS, University of London. Her research focuses on cross-border migration between Thailand and Myanmar, transnational politics, state policies, and human rights. She also has experience working with human rights NGOs and previously founded a Burmese language school.
